Real-time Detection of Disease Outbreaks

چکیده

This paper analyzes the problem of real-time datadriven detection of outbreaks of disease and discusses our prototype system. A conclusion is that the earliest possible detection of outbreaks requires the synthesis of multiple types of evidence such as biosensor data, clinical data, and epidemiological data. An important source for these data will be electronic medical records. Prior research and development in the areas of standards, event monitoring, and portability of knowledge bases has contributed to the development of such systems.
